Bayer Leverkusen appears to take a dig at Arsenal ahead of their clash against the Premier League leaders in the UEFA Champions League. The German giants will host Mikel Arteta’s side in the Round of 16 at the BayArena on Wednesday, March 11.
Ahead of the game, Bayer Leverkusen seemingly took a dig at the Gunners on social media. They posted a picture on X containing a sign which says:
Thanks for the submission!
“NO CORNERS ALLOWED!!!”
Arsenal are the favourites in the Premier League title race, having led the table for months now. They also dominated the league phase of the UEFA Champions League topping the table with eight wins in eight games.
Mikel Arteta’s side have been touted by many to win the quadruple this season and their set-piece prowess has been a key reason behind their success so far. They have particularly made the most from their corners, which has divided opinion of the fans.
In the Premier League alone, Arsenal have scored 16 goals from corners and they have converted three more in other competitions. Their set-piece coach Nicolas Jover has worked wonders taking Mikel Arteta’s side to the next level.
Thierry Henry backs Arsenal and another team favourites for the Champions League ahead of Barcelona
Thierry Henry has named Arsenal and Bayern Munich as the favourites to win the UEFA Champions League this season ahead of Barcelona. Following the Blaugrana’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle United in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16, Henry ruled them out as favourites. Henry said:
“I think that Bayern is way more balanced than Barcelona in terms of how they attack, how they shift places. You will see, whoever it is, it can be the winger inside, the striker like we saw with Nicolas Jackson on the right, they know what they need to do, they press well, they’re very difficult to beat at times.”
He added:
“It looks like at Barcelona sometimes, you have the tie against Atletico in the Copa del Rey where they lost 4-0 and it could’ve been 6-0 or 7-0 to Atletico, then you bring it back to Barca and then it could have been 6-0, 7-0, 8-0 to you. They need to find that consistency and that balance if they want to win and be considered one of the hot favourites to win it – I still think they are. But that balance sometimes that they don’t have make me turn a tiny bit more to Bayern and Arsenal.”
Bayern Munich absolutely demolished Atalanta 6-1 away from home in the first leg of their Round of 16 clash. Arsenal, on the other hand, will take on Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg on Wednesday, March 11.
