Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix is at the center of attention after an alleged rift with team coach Sean Payton. According to reports, the breakdown in their relationship began in January after Nix disputed comments made by Payton on Tuesday, in which the Denver coach described the quarterback’s ankle injury as something he was “predisposed to” from a preexisting injury.
While there have been no major reports of a clash between the two ever since, analyst Danny Kelly predicted that the craziest probable offseason move this season could involve Nix leaving the Broncos.
Thanks for the submission!
“The Broncos trade Bo Nix because of all this Sean Payton-Nix drama that’s happened,” Kelly said on “The Bill Simmons Podcast” on Thursday. “Even though it’s probably not really much drama.”

Kelly then discussed Payton’s behavior at the NFL combine.

“Even at the combine, we went to the Payton presser, and he was, kinda, getting into fights with the beat reporters there, about the whole thing,” Kelly said. “He put one of the beat reporters on timeout during the presser. And it was like, ‘This is kinda weird, man.’ And then Nix is coming out and talking about how Sean Payton shouldn’t be talking about his medical history.”
The Broncos took Nix with the No. 12 pick in the 2024 NFL draft. He has led Denver to the playoffs in each of his two years with the franchise.

Bo Nix expected to return as Broncos QB1 for Week 1 of 2026 season

Bo Nix led the Broncos to the AFC West title last season. Denver also earned the No. 1 seed in the conference, getting a bye in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
The Broncos beat the Buffalo Bills 33-30 in overtime in the divisional round, but Nix broke his ankle on the final drive of the contest, which ruled him out for the rest of the season. The Broncos lost 10-7 to the New England Patriots in the AFC championship game.
Although there were initial concerns that Nix could miss the start of the 2026 season as he continues his rehab, the QB has said that he should be back in action to return to training in 4-6 weeks following surgery on Jan. 20.
