Washington Capitals forward Dylan Strome’s wife, Tayler, recently shared a statement on her Instagram stories, strongly condemning the hateful online comments directed at her husband and their two-year-old daughter.

The backlash stemmed from a post shared by the NHL on social media. The post featured a photo of Strome with one of their daughters at Disneyland. However, some users mistakenly linked the post to controversy surrounding the Team USA men’s hockey team at the Olympics.

“Dylan Strome is the ultimate girl dad,” the caption read.

Meanwhile, Dylan Strome, who is a Canadian, had no involvement in the Olympics or the referenced situation. After trolls flooded the comments, the NHL ultimately decided to take down the post amid the backlash.

In her statement, Tayler wrote:

“We were placed into a narrative that we have absolutely nothing to do with, and we certainly did not choose to have our family used in it. You can debate adults all you want, but dragging my husband and especially my toddler into something that has nothing to do with us is beyond unacceptable.”

She concluded:

“The comments and messages about my TWO YEAR OLD DAUGHTER are some of the most vile and disgusting things I have ever read in my life. This isn’t about politics. She is a child. Full Stop. Do better & to everyone who has reached out or addressed this situation with more than a single brain cell, thank you.”

How has Dylan Strome fared this season?

Dylan Strome has had a solid season for the Washington Capitals so far. The 28-year-old forward has accumulated 47 points through 16 goals and 31 assists in 58 games this season.

Meanwhile, the Capitals are coming off a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday. The Caps improved their record to 30-23-7, currently sitting fourth in the Metro Division.

Strome and the Capitals will take on the Vegas Golden Knights next on Friday. The puck at Capital One Arena drops at 7:30 p.m. ET.
