Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross feels that Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) should square off against a former WWE star. The Salt of the Earth is the current AEW World Champion.

Friedman became a two-time AEW champion at World’s End in December last year. He emerged victorious in a fatal four-way match, which also featured Samoa Joe, Swerve Strickland, and Hangman Page. Since winning the title, he has defended the gold several times over his 60-day reign. He faced off against the likes of Bandido, Alec Price, and Brody King across several promotions.

On a recent episode of the Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross said Tommaso Ciampa could be a great foil for the current AEW champion. Ciampa, a five-time champion in WWE, recently joined the Tony Khan-led promotion. JR explained that if he were part of the creative team, he would gradually work up to that match. The wrestling legend noted that MJF has a great future in the business, and with AEW signing up several new stars, he has the opportunity to start some fresh feuds in the company.

“I think Ciampa is going to be a great addition to AEW’s roster. It’s going to give some guys a chance for some matches. I think a program with him and MJF interests me, for example. Not that that’s the only one, but if I were booking, I somehow or another would work my way to that match, or systematically. I think he’s got a great future with AEW because again, there are so many new guys that he can work with.” [H/T Wrestling Inc]

MJF has a huge title defense at Revolution

This coming week on Dynamite, MJF and Hangman Page will be in a pre-match press conference. The two stars are scheduled for a huge title match at AEW Revolution on March 15. The fate of the AEW World Championship will be decided in a Texas Death Match at the pay-per-view.

It will be interesting to see if Friedman can walk out of the huge event as the AEW Champion.
