The College of Michigan employed a brand new head soccer coach after firing ex-coach Sherrone Moore on Dec. 10 for having an “inappropriate relationship” with a feminine staffer. Moore was arrested hours after his firing and later charged with dwelling invasion, stalking and breaking and getting into.

U of M introduced Friday night time that Kyle Whittingham, 66, who served because the Utes’ head coach on the College of Utah for 21 seasons, had agreed to a five-year contract that runs by 2030 to steer the Wolverines. 

Particulars of the contact haven’t been disclosed. 

“Kyle Whittingham is a well-respected and extremely profitable head coach who’s widely known as a pacesetter of remarkable character and principled management,” stated Michigan Director of Athletics Warde Manuel. 

Whittingham stated: “My household and I are thrilled to hitch the College of Michigan group, and we stay up for serving to our gamers develop, develop, and attain their highest potential — on the gridiron, within the classroom, and as leaders. It is a privilege to be a part of one thing that conjures up delight in each Wolverine fan.”

Michigan is hoping to show issues round after the Moore‘s firing. Moore served as coach for the 2024 and 2025 seasons after working underneath former coach Jim Harbaugh since 2018. Michigan later introduced that its athletic division was underneath evaluate amid the investigation in opposition to Moore.

Whittingham joined the Utes employees in 1994, first as a line of defense coach. He labored by the ranks, additionally serving as defensive coordinator, linebackers coach and safeties coach, earlier than he was named head coach in 2005.

In Whittingham’s first seven seasons as head coach, he led the Utes to seven bowl video games, successful six of them. Whittingham ended with a 177-88 profession document with the Utes and an 11-6 bowl document. On Dec. 12, Whittingham introduced that he was stepping down. The Utes completed the 2025 season with a 10-2 document and at the moment are getting ready for the Las Vegas Bowl in opposition to Nebraska. Whittingham won’t coach Utah in its bowl recreation and as an alternative will be a part of Michigan on the Citrus Bowl. 

In the meantime, the Wolverines (9-3) are gearing up for the Citrus Bowl in opposition to Texas, with interim coach Biff Poggi main the staff. Poggi informed reporters earlier this week that he interviewed for the job, and the college hoped to rent its subsequent coach earlier than the bowl recreation.
