High-Profile Restaurant Owner Accused of Drugging Woman’s Cocktail

A prominent UK restaurateur allegedly attempted to spike a woman’s drink with a date-rape drug at an exclusive Mayfair members’ club, court documents reveal. Vikas Nath, 63, was observed using a straw to introduce gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) into a spicy margarita at Annabel’s rooftop garden bar.

Staff Intervention Prevents Potential Harm

Alert staff members reportedly witnessed Nath retrieving a small bottle from his pocket, dipping a straw into what appeared to be Madagascan vanilla extract, and transferring liquid into the woman’s cocktail. Establishment personnel swiftly replaced the contaminated drink before the victim could consume it.

Security footage allegedly captured Nath disposing of the small bottle in a toilet cistern as police arrived at the upscale venue. Subsequent searches of his Knightsbridge residence reportedly uncovered two additional bottles of GBL concealed beneath his kitchen sink.

Defendant Claims Intent to ‘Relax’ Companion

While admitting to adulterating the beverage, Nath maintains his actions stemmed from a desire to help the woman unwind rather than facilitate sexual activity. The restaurateur, who owns multiple Michelin-starred establishments across the UK and Spain, reportedly told investigators he obtained GBL as automotive cleaner and was unaware of its illegal status.

Court documents indicate Nath referenced ongoing mental health challenges related to his divorce when explaining his behavior during police interviews.

Digital Evidence Reveals Concerning Patterns

Prosecutors presented text messages allegedly sent by Nath prior to the January 2024 incident, including one stating: “I’m at Annabel’s. This is probably the last evening with (her). She ain’t biting.” Earlier communications reportedly contained references to “needing to play the long game” and desiring “old fashioned seduction.”

Evidence presented to the jury includes reports of a motion-activated camera installed in Nath’s bedroom, which he allegedly acknowledged using to secretly record intimate encounters.

Legal Proceedings Continue

Nath currently faces charges of attempting to administer a substance with intent and possession of a Class B drug, both of which he denies. The trial at Southwark Crown Court continues as prosecutors argue the evidence demonstrates calculated intent rather than misguided relaxation efforts.
