Lucy Mecklenburgh, the 34-year-old former TOWIE star, responds sharply to a social media troll who criticized her for missing Mother’s Day with her children.
She shares Instagram photos from her younger sister Lydia’s 30th adults-only birthday celebration on Monday. Lucy and her fiancé Ryan Thomas, 41, enjoy a break from parenting duties with son Roman, 6, and daughter Lilah, 3, who spend the day at their aunt and uncle’s house.
The Troll’s Criticism
One commenter questions her choice: “So u spent Mother’s Day without your children?” They add, “Poor kids spent the day without their mum on Mother’s Day and were at their auntie and uncle’s house instead not quite the same…I know it was Lucy’s sisters 30th but why couldn’t they have a joint celebration?”
Lucy’s Fiery Reply
Lucy fires back: “I really selfishly went to my sisters 30th birthday.”
Fans Rally in Support
Supporters defend her in the comments: “Some people are horrible. You’re a great mum x,” “There’s always one. Do better,” and “Disappointing that this unnecessary comment came from a woman. God forbid a woman has a life outside of motherhood. I bet you wouldn’t shame a man in this way.”
Recent Health Challenges
Lucy recovers from laparoscopy surgery for endometriosis performed in November. She endures years of symptoms including fatigue, bloating, constipation, and back pain, which intensify after Lilah’s birth three years ago.
Diagnosed in early 2024, Lucy delays the procedure despite lifestyle changes like healthy eating and exercise. She explains her anxiety: “One of the anxieties I had about the surgery was not knowing how that day looked and going into it completely blind, I found that really intimidating.”
Her symptoms differ from typical endometriosis issues like severe period pain or fertility problems. Ultimately, she decides, “I’ve had enough. It felt like time to do something for me.”
