To the editor: Throughout my 27 years as a federal legal professional, I requested scores of individuals to signal sworn declarations that I drafted — however solely after I interviewed them to offer me the details that described the scenario. I by no means requested a declarant to signal a declaration that had been drafted with out his or her enter.

On this case, a police captain apparently informed a metropolis legal professional that at the very least among the statements within the declaration had been a “lie” (“LAPD captain claims metropolis pushed deceptive assertion to justify police techniques at protest,” Oct. 31). But the State Bar discovered there was “inadequate proof” to self-discipline the legal professional for allegedly pressuring the police captain to signal a declaration that, in accordance with Los Angeles Police Division Capt. Johnny Smith, contained lies.

I’m left to marvel why the phrase of a police captain, with corroboration from a former police commissioner, wasn’t sufficient to self-discipline town legal professional.
