To the editor: On this season of harvesting, feasting and giving thanks, I need to thank workers author Brittny Mejia for her highly effective article relating to the legions of people that hold us properly fed, day after day, 12 months after 12 months (“Arduous lives in California’s fields: ‘The American dream eats us alive,’” Nov. 30). I’m reminded of the opening line of Charles Bukowski’s poem “The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth.” It begins, “If I endure at this typewriter / assume how I’d really feel among the many lettuce-pickers of Salinas?”
