Are the Los Angeles Lakers considering trading LeBron James?

Well, the rumor mill keeps … milling.

In recent weeks, there has been some unforeseen chatter about James’ future in L.A. And now, DraftKings Sportsbook has dropped odds for the future Hall of Famer’s next team.

Let’s take a look at the odds as of July 17.

First regular-season minute played to be for which NBA team (2025-26)

Lakers: -340 (bet $10 to win $12.94 total)
Mavericks: +300 (bet $10 to win $40 total)
Cavaliers: +600 (bet $10 to win $70 total)
Heat: +1500 (bet $10 to win $160 total)
Knicks: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total)
Clippers: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total)

Usually, when there are odds available for an occurrence, it has at least a small chance of occurring.

And in the case of James leaving L.A., the odds have been shifting toward that outcome over the last two weeks.

On July 1, the Lakers were at -1000 to retain James, with Dallas second at +600 and Cleveland third at +1000.

Now, both the Mavs’ and Cavs’ odds are significantly shorter.

And as of Wednesday, the Lakers were at -550 to retain James. On Thursday, those odds are now at -340.

According to a recent ESPN report, James’ agent Rich Paul said that multiple teams had reached out to him regarding James being available on the trade market.

Further reports revealed those teams to be Dallas, Golden State, Cleveland and the Clippers.

Paul also suggested that he and James would analyze the Lakers’ roster at the end of free agency to determine if it could compete for a championship as constructed.

James has a no-trade clause in his contract, meaning it would be completely up to him where he landed in a potential trade, and ESPN’s Brian Windhorst also reported recently that a trade would be unlikely given James’ massive deal and what it would take for a team to acquire him.

Still, the odds exist.
