Juventus Shows Interest in Everton Forward
Juventus has initiated contact regarding Everton striker Beto as the transfer window nears its close on Monday. The Italian club views the 28-year-old as a potential addition to bolster their attacking line, though Everton remains hesitant to allow his departure at this stage.
Securing a new center-forward ranks high on Juventus’s priorities under manager Luciano Spalletti. Earlier efforts focused on Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta, with discussions held involving his representatives. The Serie A side proposed a loan arrangement with an option or obligation to buy, but they declined to meet Palace’s £35 million asking price for the French international.
Beto’s Performance and Everton’s Stance
This shift in focus has brought Beto into the spotlight. The Portuguese-born Guinea-Bissau international joined Everton from Udinese for £25.8 million and serves as one of only two senior strikers in the squad, alongside Thierno Barry. Everton officials are firm on retaining him without a suitable replacement lined up, especially so late in the window.
Beto has struggled to consistently find the net during his three seasons in England. He scored five goals in all competitions in his debut campaign and ten the following year, including three and eight in the Premier League respectively. This season, he has netted four times overall, with three in the top flight.
His most recent contribution came in a dramatic 1-1 draw away to Brighton, where he scored in the seventh minute of stoppage time to secure a vital point. Everton manager David Moyes expressed optimism about the impact of this goal, stating, “I’m really pleased for Beto because it’d be hard to tell you how good he is as a worker. He’s doing everything to try and turn his form around. And he lives off goals. He wants to score. And once you get a goal, sometimes it can just change your fortune a little bit. This time last year when I first came into the club, he went on a brilliant run of goals for me. I hope that maybe that one’s going to give him a little bit of feeling that he can do it again.”
Despite these efforts, Beto has yet to achieve double-digit goals in the Premier League across his time with the Toffees.
Potential Incoming for Everton
With Beto likely to remain at Goodison Park, Everton appears poised to pursue other reinforcements. The club is actively working to secure a deal for Chelsea winger Tyrique George, which could enhance their forward options in the coming weeks.
