The Justice Division subpoenaed New York Legal professional Common Letitia James in an investigation of whether or not she violated President Trump’s civil rights, the Related Press stories, citing sources acquainted with the matter.

The subpoenas mark an escalation of the Trump administration’s persevering with efforts to scrutinize perceived political adversaries of the president. James investigated Mr. Trump earlier than his 2024 election victory. The New York Instances first reported the subpoenas.

James’ lawyer Abbe Lowell stated in an announcement, “Investigating the fraud case Legal professional Common James gained towards President Trump and his companies must be probably the most blatant and determined instance of this administration finishing up the president’s political retribution marketing campaign.”

Lowell accused the Trump administration of “[w]eaponizing the Division of Justice to attempt to punish an elected official for doing her job” and stated it was “an assault on the rule of regulation and a harmful escalation by this administration.”

“If prosecutors perform this improper tactic and are genuinely within the fact, we’re prepared and ready with the information and the regulation,” Lowell stated.

This can be a creating story and might be up to date.
