T20 World Cup 2026 returns to the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium for a clash between India and South Africa on February 22. It is the first match of the Super 8s round for both nations, and both teams will be keen to begin on a winning note.

Both India and South Africa remained undefeated in the group stage of the tournament. India defeated USA, Namibia, Pakistan and Netherlands to top Group A, while South Africa grabbed the pole position in the Group D standings by defeating New Zealand, Afghanistan, Canada and UAE.

Before the rematch of the T20 World Cup 2024 final begins in Ahmedabad, here’s a look at the pitch history of the world’s largest cricket stadium.

Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad T20I records

Although the Narendra Modi Stadium will be filled with people in blue jerseys on February 22, it will be like a home game for South Africa because they have played three matches at this venue in T20 World Cup already. The Proteas beat New Zealand, Canada and Afghanistan on this ground.

India have played only one match at this stadium in the ongoing mega event, which is why South Africa will have a slight better idea about the conditions. Here are some stats to know from the previous T20Is played in Ahmedabad:

T20I matches played: 11

Won by teams batting first: 7

Won by teams batting second: 4

Highest individual score: 126* – Shubman Gill (IND) vs New Zealand, 2023

Best bowling figures: 4/16 – Hardik Pandya (IND) vs New Zealand, 2023

Highest team total: 234/4 – India vs New Zealand, 2023

Lowest team total: 66 – New Zealand vs India, 2023

Highest successful run-chase: 178/3 – South Africa vs New Zealand, 2026

Average first innings score: 190

Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad pitch report

The pitch report will be live from Ahmedabad before the toss happens. Generally, the wicket favors the batters and bowlers equally, but the short boundaries allow the batters to rule the roost at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

South Africa and India played a T20I match in Ahmedabad in December last year, where both teams scored 200+ runs, and India prevailed by a small margin. Another high-scoring thriller should be on the cards.

India defeated the Netherlands by 17 runs in the previous match played in Ahmedabad. Shivam Dube’s fantastic inning of 66 runs powered the home side to 193/6 in 20 overs.

Chasing 194 for a win, the Dutch outfit reached 176/7 in 20 overs and lost by 17 runs. Spinner Varun Chakravarthy bagged a three-wicket haul for India. Here’s the scorecard summary:
