Highly effective earthquake hits off Japan, triggering tsunami alert

A strong earthquake struck off the coast of northern Japan on Monday, triggering a tsunami alert, the Japanese Meteorological Company mentioned.

The company mentioned the magnitude 7.6 quake struck off the coast of Hokkaido, close to the coastal metropolis of Aomori with an epicenter about 30 miles beneath the ocean floor.

It issued an alert within the area for a tsunami of as much as 10 toes.

Nuclear energy vegetation within the area had been conducting security checks, public broadcaster NHK reported.

The U.S. Nationwide Tsunami Warning Middle mentioned there was no tsunami hazard for the U.S. West Coast, Canada’s British Columbia or Alaska.
