Hackers have leaked the main points of 1000’s of customers of an app billed as a secure area for ladies to talk about males.

Directors of the Tea App, which is designed to assist girls “date safely” and reportedly boasts over 4 million customers as of this week, confirmed the breach Friday.

Tea permits customers to add pictures of males and seek for them by title, with others then in a position to depart feedback, describing particular males as a “pink flag” or “inexperienced flag,” and sharing different details about them.

It not too long ago topped the free app charts on the Apple App Retailer. Signal-up for the app required selfies to show customers had been respectable.

The cyber assault occurred at round 6.45 a.m. PT, when the app’s legacy storage system was compromised and hackers gained entry to all person knowledge previous to February 2024.

Roughly 72,000 pictures, together with round 13,000 selfies and photograph identification submitted by customers throughout account verification, and round 59,000 pictures publicly viewable within the app from posts, feedback and direct messages, had been accessed.

Tea mentioned that no electronic mail addresses or telephone numbers had been accessed and solely these customers who signed up earlier than February 2024 had been affected.

In keeping with 404 Media, first to report on the incident, the breach might have been prompted by males on the nameless, right-wing troll message board 4Chan, after customers referred to as for a “hack and leak” marketing campaign.

On Friday morning a 4Chan person allegedly posted a hyperlink that allowed others to obtain the database of stolen pictures and different figuring out details about Tea customers – a few of which have been shared on-line.
