MEXICO CITY — Gunmen opened fireplace at a soccer subject in central Mexico on Sunday, killing a minimum of 11 individuals and wounding 12, authorities mentioned.

Salamanca Mayor Cesar Prieto mentioned in a press release posted to social platforms that the gunmen arrived on the finish of a soccer match.

Ten individuals died on the scene and one died later at a hospital. The mayor mentioned a girl and a minor have been among the many wounded.

Prieto mentioned the assault was a part of a “crime wave” within the metropolis and appealed to President Claudia Sheinbaum for assist to manage the violence.

The Guanajuato state prosecutor’s workplace mentioned it was investigating and coordinating with federal authorities to bolster safety within the space.
