Former WWE Personality Speaks Out on Immigration Policy
Simone Garcia Johnson, daughter of actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and former WWE performer under the ring name Ava Raine, has ignited controversy with social media remarks about federal immigration enforcement. The comments came shortly after her departure from the wrestling organization.
WWE Departure Announcement
Johnson confirmed her exit from WWE through an Instagram statement last Friday, describing the decision not to renew her contract as ‘very difficult.’ She expressed gratitude to supporters, writing: ‘This past Tuesday was my last appearance on NXT &, subsequently, WWE. Thank you to all who have cheered, watched, and supported me through my journey.’
Controversial Social Media Activity
Days after her WWE departure, Johnson posted a since-deleted tweet criticizing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the previous presidential administration. The message reportedly stated: ‘And now that I can say this with my full chest, (middle finger emoji) ICE and that entire administration.’
The tweet followed nationwide protests responding to recent ICE enforcement actions, including demonstrations in Minneapolis where two individuals identified as nurse Alex Pretti and mother Renee Nicole Good were fatally shot during an incident involving federal agents.
Social Media Backlash and Deactivation
The critical post prompted significant online backlash, leading Johnson to deactivate her X (formerly Twitter) account entirely. This marks the second recent instance where the 22-year-old has faced criticism for political commentary, following earlier remarks about public figures after high-profile incidents.
WWE Career Overview
Johnson joined WWE in 2020 after an injury disrupted her studies at New York University. Her in-ring debut occurred in April 2023 before transitioning to a backstage role. She eventually became NXT’s youngest-ever general manager at age 22, breaking the organization’s previous age records for the position.
Federal immigration enforcement activities have reportedly intensified in recent weeks as part of ongoing policy operations. Protest movements advocating for immigration reform have organized nationwide demonstrations, including work stoppages under initiatives like ‘ICE Out.’
