Former Democratic Republic of Congo chief Joseph Kabila went on trial in absentia Friday on costs together with treason over alleged help for Rwanda-backed rebels. He faces costs together with murder, torture and rape linked to the M23 rebels, in addition to plotting to overthrow the federal government of President Felix Tshisekedi – a cost that might carry a demise sentence.
