The Division of Justice is suing the Metropolis of Boston, Mayor Michelle Wu and Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox over town’s immigration insurance policies.

Within the lawsuit filed Thursday, the Trump administration stated town is breaking federal legislation by refusing to help with immigration enforcement.

“The Metropolis of Boston and its Mayor have been among the many worst sanctuary offenders in America – they explicitly implement insurance policies designed to undermine legislation enforcement and defend unlawful aliens from justice,” Legal professional Normal Pam Bondi stated in an announcement. “If Boston will not defend its residents from unlawful alien crime, this Division of Justice will.”

In August, Mayor Wu responded to an ultimatum from the federal government over metropolis insurance policies, saying Boston “won’t again down.”

The DOJ wrote within the lawsuit, Wu’s “resistance endangers public security, leading to a lot of criminals being launched into Boston who ought to have been held for immigration elimination from the US.”

The lawsuit targets the Boston Belief Act, which limits the function of town in implementing federal immigration legal guidelines. The DOJ stated the coverage, “discriminates in opposition to the Federal Authorities.”

WBZ has reached out to Mayor Wu’s workplace for touch upon the lawsuit.

In March, Mayor Wu testified earlier than the Home Oversight Committee in Washington, D.C. as a part of federal investigation into sanctuary cities. In her opening assertion she stated, “Massachusetts State legislation and the Boston Belief Act clarify that immigration is federal legislation enforcement’s duty.”

The Division of Justice has filed lawsuits focusing on sanctuary metropolis insurance policies throughout the nation, together with in New York, New Jersey, and Los Angeles.
