The lawsuit, filed by Democratic legal professional Marc Elias’ regulation agency, argued that the present district dilutes the voting energy of Staten Island’s rising Black and Latino populations, violating minority protections below the New York Voting Rights Act.

“We’re happy that the courtroom appropriately acknowledged that the present district traces have systematically diluted the votes of Black and Latino Staten Islanders, regardless of many years of demographic progress in these communities,” Elias Legislation Group Companion Aria Department mentioned.
