Chinese language state media says Nvidia H20 chips not protected for China

BEIJING (Reuters) -Nvidia’s H20 chips pose safety considerations for China, a social media account affiliated with China’s state media stated on Sunday, after Beijing raised considerations over backdoor entry in these chips.

The H20 chips are additionally not technologically superior or environmentally pleasant, the account, Yuyuan Tantian, which is affiliated with state broadcaster CCTV, stated in an article revealed on WeChat.

“When a sort of chip is neither environmentally pleasant, nor superior, nor protected, as customers, we definitely have the choice to not purchase it,” the article concluded.

Nvidia didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.

H20 synthetic intelligence chips had been developed by Nvidia for the Chinese language market after the U.S. imposed export restrictions on superior AI chips in late 2023. The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump banned their gross sales in April amid escalating commerce tensions with China, however reversed the ban in July.
