The latest Chinese SUV resembling the Range Rover Evoque has begun deliveries across the UK, offering strong competition to the established British model. Owners have taken possession of the first Chery Tiggo 9 units, and demand is expected to rise for this affordable import shaking up the market.
Striking Design Parallels
Externally, the Tiggo 9 mirrors the Evoque closely, featuring a floating roofline, prominent front grille, and sleek, narrow headlights that make the vehicles appear nearly identical. This visual similarity stems from a 50:50 joint venture between the two brands, formed in 2012.
Affordable Pricing Edge
The key distinction lies in cost: the top Summit trim of the Tiggo 9 starts at £43,105, nearly £20,000 less than the premium Evoque, which approaches £60,000. Flexible financing options allow drivers to start at just £499 monthly.
Gary Lan, CEO of Chery UK, commented: “Seeing the first CHERY TIGGO 9 CSH reach a UK customer is an important moment for us. This model represents the next chapter of CHERY’s journey here – a flagship SUV that speaks to what UK families want today: electric capability, generous space, and a level of comfort and technology that feels effortless to live with.”
Advanced Hybrid Performance
Equipped with a sophisticated plug-in hybrid powertrain, the Tiggo 9 combines electric efficiency with extended range. It achieves up to 650 miles on a full charge and tank, surpassing the Evoque by over 200 miles. Pure electric mode covers 91 miles, supported by rapid charging that boosts the battery from 30% to 80% in 18 minutes.
Luxury Interior and Tech
The cabin includes heated and ventilated seats, a high-end 14-speaker Sony sound system, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a 540-degree camera system, and comprehensive driver assistance features. Every Chery vehicle carries a 7-year or 100,000-mile warranty for added reliability.
Lan added: “This new model shows just how far CHERY has come in such a short amount of time – and how committed we are to offering drivers more choice, more refinement, and more value across the SUV segment.”
