Casemiro has contributed nearly £11 million in taxes over the past year while gearing up for his departure from Manchester United. The 33-year-old Brazilian joined the club from Real Madrid in August 2022 for a transfer fee that could reach £70 million. He signed a four-year contract with an option for an additional season.

Contract Decision and Future Move

Club officials have opted not to extend Casemiro’s stay beyond the current campaign, honoring his request to announce his summer exit this month. Recent tax disclosures rank him as the third-highest taxpayer among UK footballers, behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah. He earns £375,000 weekly, subjecting him to the UK’s 45 percent tax rate on income above £125,000.

Speculation points to a potential transfer to the Saudi Pro League, where players face no income tax on earnings—a stark contrast to UK rates. This financial advantage, combined with lucrative salaries, makes the move appealing.

Casemiro’s Statement on Departure

Following the confirmation of his exit, Casemiro expressed his sentiments: “I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life. It is not time to say goodbye. There are many more memories to create during the next four months.”

Tax Rankings Among Footballers

Haaland leads the football tax contributors with £17 million, based on his £500,000 weekly base salary plus an estimated £10 million in image rights and bonuses. Salah follows with £14.5 million. Other notable payers include Raheem Sterling at £9.8 million after his recent mutual contract termination with Chelsea, and Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk at £9.7 million.

Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes and Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva each paid £9 million. The overall list is dominated by bookmaker Betfred, which contributed £400 million to public finances. Celebrities such as Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran, and boxer Anthony Joshua also feature in the top 100.
