Evil Dead icon Bruce Campbell, aged 67, has revealed a diagnosis of a cancer described as “treatable, not curable.” Best known for his role as Ash Williams in Sam Raimi’s horror franchise, the actor shared the news on social media.
Shock Diagnosis and Positive Outlook
Campbell described the revelation as a shock, framing it positively as an “opportunity.” In a post on X, he stated: “Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an ‘opportunity,’ so let’s go with that – I’m having one of those.”
He elaborated: “It’s also called a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable’ not ‘curable.’ I apologize if that’s a shock – it was to me too.”
Treatment Plans and Canceled Appearances
Prioritizing health, Campbell plans to focus on treatment over the summer. He aims to tour his new film Ernie + Emma, where he stars as widowed pear salesman Ernie Tyler alongside Cerina Vincent, this fall.
However, several conventions and appearances must be canceled. He explained: “The good news is, I’m not gonna go into any more detail. I’m posting this, because professionally, a few things will have to change – appearances and cons and work in general need to take back seat to treatment.”
“My plan is to get as well as I possibly can over the summer so that I can tour with my new movie Ernie + Emma this fall. There are several cons this year that I have to cancel. Big regrets on my part. Treatment needs and professional obligations don’t always go hand-in-hand.”
Campbell emphasized he seeks no sympathy or advice, aiming to preempt misinformation: “That’s about it. I’m not trying [to] enlist sympathy – or advice – I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will).”
Reassurance to Fans
The actor reassured supporters of his resilience: “Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-b**** and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while.” He added: “As always, you’re the greatest fans in the world and I hope to see you soon!”
Career Highlights
Campbell rose to fame alongside Ellen Sandweiss and Betsy Baker in the Evil Dead series. His credits also include films like Crimewave (1985) and Maniac Cop (1988), as well as TV appearances in Xena: Warrior Princess.
