Billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates attended the Australian Open women’s singles final in Melbourne on Saturday, accompanied by his girlfriend, Paula Hurd. The outing comes one day after newly released documents from the Jeffrey Epstein case alleged involvement with Russian women and a sexually transmitted disease.
Gates and Hurd at Melbourne Park
Gates and Hurd have been present at the prestigious tennis tournament throughout the week. On Thursday, they occupied premium seats at Rod Laver Arena to view earlier matches. They returned on Saturday for the high-stakes showdown between Belarus’s Aryna Sabalenka and Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina.
Sabalenka ultimately claimed victory in the final, securing her third Australian Open title. Gates appeared relaxed in the stands, focusing on the action despite the timing of recent revelations.
Denial of Epstein Allegations
A spokesperson for Gates issued a strong rebuttal to the claims in the documents, describing them as “absolutely absurd and completely false.” The statement emphasized that the files only highlight Epstein’s frustration over the lack of an ongoing relationship with Gates and his efforts to entrap and defame him.
Gates has consistently denied any improper connections to Epstein. He has publicly expressed regret over their past association, which he ended years ago. Epstein, a convicted sex offender, died by suicide in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges.
Details from the Released Files
The U.S. Department of Justice has faced significant pressure to unseal thousands of Epstein-related documents. The latest batch, released on Friday, includes a 2013 email Epstein drafted to himself, seemingly intended for Boris Nikolic, Gates’s former top advisor.
The email references Gates’s decision to sever ties, stating Epstein was “dismayed beyond comprehension” after building a six-year friendship. It further mentions requests related to an STD, antibiotics for Gates’s then-wife Melinda, and other personal details, adding to the contentious narrative surrounding their interactions.
These disclosures continue to fuel public interest in Epstein’s network, though Gates maintains no involvement in the financier’s criminal activities.
