Stop making excuses, show some leadership and act like a governor, Maura Healey.

Instead of bickering with U.S. Attorney Leah Foley on who said what, when, Democrat Healey should be ordering an audit of every federal assistance program in Massachusetts.

Foley indicated that the recent $1.1 million benefits scam uncovered by her office was just the tip of the iceberg on theft and misuse of public funds.

So what is Healey’s plan? Why isn’t she being aggressive and trying to ferret out corruption, instead of downplaying and dismissing it?

If she doesn’t do it, President Donald Trump will and that won’t make her look good.

Healey instead is trying to claim credit for Trump appointee Foley’s investigations and sitting on her governor’s seat while millions of dollars are being stolen under her nose by unscrupulous criminals exploiting the system.

Does she really think that everyone getting public assistance money is entitled to it?

The Democratic governor is now embroiled in a feud with the U.S. attorney over who launched the initial investigation into the latest scam which allegedly netted several Massachusetts men, including two Venezuelan nationals, over $1 million in government assistance funds using stolen identities.

Healey apparently isn’t concerned because she left quickly for a weekend excursion to the warm West Coast, where she is planning to attend the Super Bowl and political events.

As she left, she also issued a weather advisory urging people to stay out of the record cold coming our way.

“We advise you to use extra care on the roads and take the time to check in on your neighbors to make sure everyone stays warm and safe,” she said.

“Bundle up in layers of clothing, limit time outdoors and try to stay active while you’re inside,” Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll added.

Hello? How clueless could you be?

Healey is off burnishing her national profile in California and mingling with Patriots’ fans, rather than deal with the dangerous weather and take care of serious issues here at home.

The problem of people improperly taking advantage of public benefits programs to line their pockets is not going away, it’s only getting worse.

She could take a hard stand against it. But that would conflict with her lefty political views which call on the government to provide illegal migrants with free food, housing and education.

Healey has clearly decided to abdicate her responsibility to protect taxpayer money.

Well, if Healey won’t do it, maybe a politician with more guts — like Foley or Democratic Auditor Diana DiZoglio – could order an audit of all of the assistance programs, including housing, EBT cards and Medicaid.

Or give the job of investigating fraud to Driscoll, if she can put aside her plan to wear another Dunkin’ Donuts jumpsuit to the St. Patrick’s Day roast.

But don’t hold your breath for Healey to root out the fraud. She’s at the Super Bowl and will take a pass.
