AJ Lee defeated Becky Lynch to win the Women’s Intercontinental Championship at Elimination Chamber. It marked a feel-good moment for fans and a triumphant return chapter for the former Divas Champion. However, Lee must lose her coveted title ahead of WrestleMania 42 due to the long-term booking health of the women’s division and the elevation of the title itself.
The Black Widow’s WWE return has centered heavily on her personal rivalry with Becky Lynch. This feud has been going on for quite some time now and both women battled each other several times. The Elimination Chamber victory allowed AJ Lee to finally complete her redemption arc by taking The Man’s prestigious title, giving her a decisive chapter-closing win in their personal saga.
Thanks for the submission!
Keeping the championship still attached to this feud risks diluting its purity at WrestleMania 42. On the other hand, a non-title grudge match between AJ and Becky at ‘Mania would carry massive emotional weight, purely about settling scores, pride and legacy. The Women’s Intercontinental Championship therefore doesn’t necessarily have to be involved in this storyline anymore.
By taking the title away from The Black Widow, WWE frees up both superstars to deliver an intense, personal blowoff match at WrestleMania 42. Meanwhile, the Women’s Intercontinental Championship would benefit from a quick title change. Six female stars will compete in a huge Gauntlet Match next week on RAW to determine AJ Lee’s next challenger for the title.
Stars like Lyra Valkyria, IYO SKY, Raquel Rodriguez, Bayley, Asuka and Ivy Nile will compete in that bout. Whoever wins that match will get a career-defining opportunity to make a name for themselves. Dethroning an iconic star like AJ Lee to win the title would be a huge moment that could elevate that superstar, giving her a monstrous push heading into WrestleMania 42.
This would be a win-win situation for the RAW women’s division. A pre-WrestleMania loss allows AJ Lee to transition into a featured non-title role, perhaps headlining a personal feud, while handing the belt to a rising star like Lyra Valkyria. Hence, this is why The Black Widow must lose her Women’s Intercontinental Championship ahead of The Show of Shows.
AJ Lee’s feud with Becky Lynch must end at WrestleMania 42
AJ Lee and Becky Lynch have been embroiled in a heated feud since late 2025. The two superstars crossed paths several times since then in a series of matches, including a tag team match, a multi-person match and a singles match. This feud however reached a point of stagnation on RAW.
Rumors have been swirling that WWE is planning to do another match between Lee and Lynch at WrestleMania 42. The company however needs to end this saga there without a second thought. This storyline has overstayed its welcome and feels stale at this point, as there’s nothing more left to explore.
Ending it at The Grandest Stage of Them All is the only direction forward. This will give both AJ Lee and Becky Lynch something fresh to look forward to post-WrestleMania. Stretching it further would only make things worse, as fans have reached a point of mental exhaustion to see the same thing repeating in a loop.
Therefore, Becky’s months-long feud with AJ must end at WrestleMania 42 and WWE should write its final chapter in Las Vegas. It will be interesting to see what Triple H does and what the future holds for both superstars.
