Authorities had pushed out many of the 1,800 households who lived within the Mexican American neighborhoods of Chavez Ravine to construct a public housing venture known as Elysian Park Heights to accommodate 17,000 folks. However on the top of anti-communist hysteria, actual property pursuits, seeing their income threatened by public housing, launch a profitable marketing campaign towards it, financing opposition teams that decision it “socialist housing.” The venture is scratched, and Mayor Norris Poulson guarantees that no new ones will likely be authorized.
