Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, 56, now faces an earlier prison release date of April 25, 2028, advanced by about six weeks from the previous June 4, 2028, schedule. This adjustment follows his enrollment in a drug rehabilitation program last November, which qualifies him for a reduced sentence while serving time at the low-security Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Challenges Early in Incarceration
Combs initially encountered setbacks that delayed his release. His projected date shifted from May 8 to June 4, 2028, after reports surfaced of infractions in late 2025. Authorities noted he consumed a fermented mixture of Fanta, sugar, and apples, resembling moonshine, and made an unauthorized three-way phone call on November 3.
Prison records indicate that during the call with a woman, Combs requested adding ‘the digital person’ to discuss blogs. An unknown male joined midway, violating rules that limit calls to approved contacts only to prevent criminal coordination.
Representatives for Combs firmly denied these allegations. A statement on his X account declared, ‘The rumors claiming Mr. Combs was caught with alcohol are completely false.’ A spokesperson emphasized, ‘He has not violated any prison rules,’ adding that ‘his sobriety and self-discipline are priorities, and he is taking them seriously.’
The team also requested privacy, noting, ‘This is only his first week at FCI Fort Dix… We ask the public and the press to give him the benefit of the doubt, the privacy to focus on his personal growth, and the grace to move forward in peace.’
Rehabilitation and Sentence Reduction
Combs gained entry into the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), a selective initiative that can shorten sentences by up to a year. His lawyers petitioned Judge Arun Subramanian, arguing that chronic drug use fueled his past ‘freak off’ parties. In a letter to the judge before sentencing, Combs admitted, ‘I am now sober for the first time in 25 years’ and committed to addressing his drug abuse and anger issues.
The judge approved participation despite its rarity for new inmates. A spokesperson confirmed, ‘Mr. Combs is an active participant in the Residential Drug Abuse Program and has taken his rehabilitation process seriously from the start. He is fully engaged in his work, focused on growth and committed to positive change.’
Trial Outcome and Ongoing Appeal
Following an eight-week trial, Combs was convicted on two prostitution-related counts but acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering. Judge Subramanian imposed a four-year prison term plus five years of supervised release last month, stressing deterrence and expressing doubts about preventing future offenses.
The judge highlighted Combs’ ‘savage’ abuse of ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and the ‘irreparable harm’ to victims. Combs continues to appeal the sentence amid these developments.
