Former South Africa cricketer Dale Steyn came up with an epic one-word social media post following India’s 76-run defeat to the Proteas in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 clash in Ahmedabad on Sunday, February 22. The cricketer-turned-commentator looked chuffed with one of the upsets in the Super 8.
Notably, India are the defending champions of the ongoing editions of the ICC event. They had beaten South Africa by seven runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 final before registering a 3-1 series win against them at home in December 2025. The Men in Blue also defeated them by 30 runs in a warm-up match in Navi Mumbai this month.

Speaking about the game, the Proteas posted 187/7 after winning the toss. After a poor start, David Miller and Dewald Brevis steadied the ship by stitching together a 97-run stand for the fourth wicket. Miller starred with the bat, smashing a quickfire 63 off 35 balls, while Brevis and Tristan Stubbs contributed 45 (29) and 44* (24), respectively. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts, finishing with economical figures of 3/15. Arshdeep Singh also scalped two wickets.
In response, the home team were bundled out for 111 in 18.5 overs. Shivam Dube produced a lone battle, scoring 42 off 37 balls, hitting three sixes and one four. Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj starred with the ball, returning with four and three wickets, respectively. Corbin Bosch also took two wickets.
With the win, the Aiden Markram-led side continued their unbeaten streak in the tournament. They had beaten Canada, Afghanistan, New Zealand, and the UAE in their previous group-stage matches. The Proteas will next play against the West Indies at the same venue on Thursday, February 26.
How can India still qualify for the T20 World Cup 2026 semifinals?
The Suryakumar Yadav-led side has put themselves in an unwanted situation following their 76-run loss to South Africa in their T20 World Cup Super 8 match. With a net run rate (NRR) of -3.800, the Men in Blue must beat Zimbabwe and the West Indies by decent margins to keep themselves alive in the race to the semifinals. They will next face Zimbabwe in Chennai on Tuesday, February 26.
