When Halo Combat Evolved was released in 2001, its LAN multiplayer kept players engaged for hours. With Halo Campaign Evolved expected to launch in late 2026, many fans are now wondering whether the upcoming title will include multiplayer in its gameplay.
According to an official statement from one of the developers, Halo Campaign will not feature multiplayer at launch, putting an end to the ongoing speculation.

Developers’ stance on the availability of multiplayer in Halo Campaign Evolved

As mentioned earlier, Halo Campaign Evolved will not include PvP multiplayer support at release. This has surprised many players, as it is an unusual move for a shooter title.
During a group interview at Halo Studios with Windows Central, Damon Conn, speaking on behalf of the Halo team, stated:
“We’re not trying to replace what is a masterpiece in the original. We’re trying to basically make something that stands kind of shoulder to shoulder with it, using new tools, new energy, to get a little bit of a fresh take on some things, but honoring the legacy.”
He added:
“So, yes, it’s a campaign experience, but it’s not only a single-player experience. And Halo has [always been] about reconnecting, a strong sense of community, and then also telling those stories and sharing those experiences together. And we believe that is where, you know, we’re really going to be able to bring people together with this new release.”
In short, Conn suggested that PvP multiplayer was left out to keep the new release closer to the original title of the franchise.
However, unlike the well-known LAN multiplayer in Halo Combat Evolved, players will only have access to up to four-player campaign co-op in Halo Campaign Evolved.
How have players reacted to the lack of multiplayer in Halo Campaign Evolved?
The decision to exclude PvP multiplayer and focus on a more faithful campaign experience has not been received positively by many players. Across platforms such as Reddit and Steam Discussions, several users have expressed frustration. Some have even stated that they would skip the game entirely.
Although it is understandable that some fans feel disappointed about the lack of PvP multiplayer in Halo Campaign Evolved, the game is still expected to offer a fresh gameplay experience.
