A 71-year-old pedestrian struck by a vehicle Saturday evening in Montreal’s Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough has died in hospital, authorities confirm.
Collision Details
Montreal police spokesperson Manuel Couture stated the incident occurred around 7:20 p.m. on Grenet Street near De Mé sy Street, between two intersections. The man was crossing the road when the crash happened.
Couture noted the pedestrian may have suffered a medical emergency, collapsing onto the roadway just before an oncoming vehicle struck him.
Driver and Aftermath
The driver, a 59-year-old man, could not stop in time to avoid the collision. He sustained no injuries but received treatment for shock.
Emergency services rushed the pedestrian to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Ongoing Investigation
Police continue to probe the crash, examining factors such as vehicle speed, driver distraction, and potential influences from the surrounding urban environment, Couture added.
