‘The Revenant’ (2015)‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ (2013)‘Queen and Slim’ (2019)Thank You!

Peacock is closing out February with a strong batch of movies that should appeal to a wide variety of film lovers.

One of the best films on the streamer, The Revenant, is also the movie that gave Leonardo DiCaprio his win for Best Actor at the Oscars.

That’s only one of Watch With Us‘ picks for the three best Peacock movies to binge-watch this weekend.

Our remaining selections for the week include an underrated drama and a romantic crime story.

‘The Revenant’ (2015)

If you’re so inclined, The Revenant is playing in a few IMAX theaters this weekend for a late 10th anniversary celebration. It’s a great movie to see on a big screen, but it’s still jaw-dropping and beautiful on television. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu allows the natural beauty of the film’s settings to come through, and it really does look like a window to the past of the nation. The film is based on the true account of Hugh Glass (DiCaprio), a fur trader who was mauled by a bear and left for dead in the early 19th century.

The story takes some liberties with Glass’ account, and John S. Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy) intentionally leaves him to die after murdering the only person Glass still loves. Left all alone in the wilderness, the only one Glass can count on is himself as he attempts to heal from his grievous injuries. The knowledge that Fitzgerald is still alive sends Glass on a quest for revenge, but it may be a battle that neither man can survive, given the harsh elements and a vengeful native tribe.

The Revenant is streaming on Peacock.

‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ (2013)

The Place Beyond the Pines is a generational crime drama that follows an outlaw biker named Luke Glanton (Ryan Gosling) and a cop, Avery Cross (Bradley Cooper), as their lives take different paths. Luke wants to provide for his ex-lover, Romina (Eva Mendes), and their young son, Jason. But all he knows how to do is commit crimes and rob banks. Meanwhile, Avery is increasingly disillusioned by the corruption of his fellow officers.

After a jump forward in time, Luke’s son, Jason (Dane DeHaan), and Avery’s son, AJ (Emory Cohen), become close friends. Neither of the teenagers realizes that their fathers have met before, but the secrets of the past won’t stay buried forever. Someone has to answer for their sins, even if it means the teens won’t be able to outrun the sins of their respective fathers.

The Place Beyond the Pines is streaming on Peacock.

‘Queen and Slim’ (2019)

The title characters of Queen & Slim never meant to be outlaw folk heroes, and they don’t even really know each other that well. Ernest “Slim” Hines (Daniel Kaluuya) and Angela “Queen” Johnson (Jodie Turner-Smith) were simply poorly matched Tinder users who had a bad date before they were pulled over by an overzealous police officer. When the officer shoots Queen, the pair fight for their lives and leave him dead in their wake.

That forces Queen and Slim to go on the run or face a lifetime in prison. They can’t go home, but their options for escape are rapidly dwindling. As much as some people admire them, there’s always someone willing to turn them over to the police.

Queen & Slim is streaming on Peacock.
